Suny or Private

I have been lucky enough to be accepted to SUNY Stony Brook and Buffalo for mechanical engineering.
I have also been accepted to Penn State (main campus) and I'm waiting to hear from RIT.
I do not know anything about finances yet, ..... But is it worth the extra money to attend the private schools?

SUNY Schools are VERY stingy with money. I would wait to get your financial packages because it’s very possible one of your privates will be cheaper than SUNY. I have a friend who applied SUNY and got NOTHING from them.

Yes, SUNY schools give smaller scholarships if any at all but the Cost of Attendance(COA) is much lower than the privates at around $20,000 SUNY vs $50-60,000 privates. So, yes, you might get a larger dollar value scholarship from the privates but check what your out of pocket (COA) would be to attend the private vs. SUNY. Is it worth an extra $120,000 over four years probably not… Many of my sons friends went to both privates and SUNYs for engineering in the past several years and all them are employed after graduation. Obviously, if one of the privates comes up with a great package then decide if you like them better. Good luck!
