SUNY PURCHASE BFA Acting Wait List Class of 2022

My D just learned she was wait listed for the BFA Acting program at Suny Purchase. Does anyone have a sense of how many kids move off the wait list and when Purchase typically is notifying students? After May 1st?

My D is also. I have no idea but it makes my stomach hurt because my daughter loves it.

My D loves it too. This May 1 date is looming. Looks like we can commiserate!

I’m here for ya. It took them so long. I don’t dare to hope we’ll hear anything before May first

I have 2 friends accepted to the program touring this week, so hopefully they’ll make decisions and if they decline, people on the waitlist can be accepted!

Great to know! Thank you!

D1 was accepted off the waitlist two years ago. She was notified via telephone call over the weekend (I want to say it was April 30 when she got the call but it may have been the 29th). They followed up with an email. D2 was accepted and has done her visit. She needs to finish a few more school visits before she decides. The WL will move!

My S is on the waitlist and he has a hard time waiting. Purchase offers what we determined would be the ideal program while doing our research but he has a school that has felt right from the moment we set foot on campus for the audition, through meeting up with the program director briefly at unifieds and now in the email communication(visiting again next week). I’m torn, he is not! I guess I shouldn’t be but…

@vpvpbp , I’m a big believer in “gut feelings.” A school can look perfect on paper, but if you walk onto campus at a different school and immediately feel “home,” and connect with the faculty and other students, and feel excited at the idea of going there…then that’s the school to go to, IMHO. (Especially if the school that felt right accepted you, while the “perfect on paper” school is just a waitlist.)

Of course it’s a personal decision! Just my own two cents.

@artskids, it’s great to hear that your D was accepted off the waitlist BEFORE the May 1 deadline! I guess the best advice for those on a waitlist of a school they prefer is to wait til just before the deadline to commit to another school, just in case. (Of course, if the waitlist comes through after that, you can still go, but lose your deposit to the other school.)

Thanks for all of this feedback. Congratulations to D2! My D was accepted into Boco drama but her heart is at Purchase. And my pocketbook isn’t as deep as Berklee needs it to be. What a process! I’ll keep you posted when we hear something. Love to hear back from you all too.

It depends on the year. I’m a sophomore, and in my company, I believe 11 of the 18 students were from the waitlist. Last year, only 3 or 4 was accepted from the waitlist in the freshman company of 20. I was accepted from the waitlist in mid-June two years ago. I think most people typically get offers from the waitlist the last week of April.

thanks @actorboy27 are you inspired and do feel supported at Purchase? How have you spent summers (if I may ask). Are there opportunities to work or intern in theatre? Also can actors participate in student films. Is there synergy there?
Thanks so much for coming here and helping us!
