Bump. (again) It seems that in past years, there have been a few people that have been bumped off.

on the waitlist as well I just recieved a call from purchase on tuesday asking if i was still intrested. How much longer is this wait ?

Do you know when people will receive their decision i was waitlisted and I recieved a phone call tuesday like may 1st from purchase asking if i was still intrested how much longer is the wait??

My waitlist letter said that they would try to let me know by June 1st, but it seems that in past years, people had to wait longer.

really??? the women who called from purchase said i should know within the next two weeks. This was recent did you recieve any emails from them in april telling you that you should find out around may first?

I can’t speak for Purchase, but try to imagine the waitlist situation in a general way, from the school’s end: They have offered X number of kids a spot at the school. The kids had until May 1 to commit. Now that they know how many kids are accepting a spot, they know if they have room for kids on the waitlist. Probably, like most schools, they start offering spots one by one, sometimes by phone call or e-mail, and then if those kids turn them down, they ask the next kid on their list. Schools usually give the kids they ask from the waitlist at least a few days or a week to decide. They might pick kids to call based on their type, gender, or any other reason.

So you can imagine it might take until June 1 for them to contact you, or it could be tomorrow. They can’t give you any more specific information than that. This is why if you are on a waitlist, unless you’re planning a gap year, you should commit to another school that has accepted you by its deadline (usually May 1). If Purchase calls you, you might lose your deposit at the other school, or you might get a refund.

Some kids get in from waitlists as late as August, if someone suddenly decides not to attend. It’s up to you if you want to stay in this kind of limbo. But you should also be making the plans you can make in the meantime.

Lots of people do get into schools from the waitlist, and if that’s what you want, I do hope you get good news soon. Good luck!

Thanks Emmy!
