Is anyone else having serious issues with SUNY Purchase? My daughter applied EARLY ACTION for BA in Theatre and has not heard anything....it's now mid-March. This is a non-audition program, and we submitted everything with tons of time, thought it took over a month for Purchase to sync it all with their computer programs.

I have contacted admissions several times and I get a different story every time. The last story I got was that she was accidentally filed as Regular Admission even though the application says EARLY ACTION. Then I e-mailed her specific admissions counselor (for the third time) and they have not said a word.

I think we are supposed to hear around March 15th for regular decision. I called the other day to check and got as a series of voice machines…have heard nothing so far.

Thanks, MSDChick. I know we will hear sooner or later, but frustrating to make the deadline and not have the option to compare early on, like Early Action should allow you to do.

My daughter applied Early Action to Purchase and has not heard anything yet. She also auditioned for the BFA so we are waiting for her rejection letter .

I wonder if it is just how the SUNY system works. She also applied early action to SUNY New Paltz and just heard from them last week (did not audition).

Hello ediththepug. I am an Admissions Advisor with SUNY Purchase and I am happy to help you with your student’s application. Our office has been undergoing computer system upgrades that have posed some technical challenges to our operations. I’m pleased to say that thanks to the hard work and dedication of our team we are overcoming those challenges and moving forward.

I’d rather not discuss your student on these open message boards, but you contact me at the office. You can email me at garrett.marino@purchase.edu or call me at 914-251-6316. I look forward to hearing from you and helping your student.

Thanks for your patience. I look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you for responding @mrgmar. I do realize there have been some computer issues and we will continue to be patient. We’re lucky she has some options already, but I guess we had wanted to put Purchase in or out of the mix a little sooner, thus the Early Action application. We look forward to hearing from Purchase when things get caught up.

@ediththepug Our Director wants to make sure your daughter gets her decision ASAP. If it’s not too much trouble, would you mind contacting me by email or phone and sharing your daughter’s name with us so we can just make sure everything is in place for her to get her decision? I’m at garrett.marino@purchase.edu or 914-251-6316. Thank you.

By the way, my name is Garrett Marino and I’m Assistant Director of Admissions. Look me up in the Purchase website www.purchase.edu

Garrett, how kind of you to offer this assistance. I’m sure that ediththepug and her daughter are appreciative and will be in touch with you soon.

Garrett, @mrgmar, thank you so much! We actually got an acceptance letter this weekend. In fact, it must have been in the mail when we started this thread. Thank you for being so considerate! My daughter is really excited about Purchase!

Perhaps a dumb question but if someone has applied for the BFA in acting program at SUNY and auditions and is rejected is it possible to get accepted into the school and go for the BA in Theatre Performance? Is that an audition program? Sorry that is probably something I should know.

@deamer18, I kind of specifically remember seeing that the BA applicaiton is different, because we almost filled out the wrong app. We saw that the BFA app was one app and the BA was a different one (maybe the common app). So, if my memory serves me correctly, you can only be also considered for the BA if you submitted the two separate apps for BA and BFA and paid two separate fees. I also remember that there were a few things required of a BA application that were not required for the BFA application (I can’t remember what specifically, it might have been supplemental essay questions).

@dreamer18 and @bisouu if a student applies for the BFA Acting program and is not offered admission, but wants to be considered for the BA in Theatre and Performance, the student must have submitted a second application to the college for the BA program. At this point, the BA Theatre and Performance program is at capacity and is waitlisting late applicants who might qualify for admission. So if your student does submit a second application for Theatre and Performance at this point the student will very likely be waitlisted if he/she is admissible.

@edittheepug Congratulations on your daughter’s admission! We hope to see her and you at our Accepted Student Day on April 4. Registration information for that Accepted Student Day and other events for admitted students is available on our website here: <a href=“Search results for • Purchase College”>Search results for • Purchase College;
