How would you rank the SUNY schools (the five or ten best) in overall academics, campus, location, financial aid, and study abroad?

I like SUNY Buffalo most overall. SUNY College at Geneseo for LAC.

SUNY Environmental Sci is best specialty school.

After that:
Binghamton
Stony Brook
Albany
New Paltz
Fredonia

Then all the rest.

Overall, I'd say Buffalo. For the sciences, Stony Brook. I would estimate that most of the other campuses, including the SUNY colleges, are relatively close in academic standing. My personal favorite is SUNY Plattsburgh, for the academics (Environmental Science/ Biology) and the scenery near Lake Champlain.

Overall --
1.) Bing
2.) Geneseo
3.) Albany/Stonybrook

Lake Washington, thanks for posting that. My daughter is looking to do a 5-year master's at Plattsburgh in secondary education for biology.

i like collegehelp's ranking alot.

My first choice would be Buffalo. Active (and happy!) student body in a city that I love. The only downside is half of my high school went there. Academics are rated quite high as well and very cheap for NY State students.

Second would be Geneseo. Small school, small town, but I have alot of friends there who love the place to pieces.

Binghamton solely for the reputation. I have many friends there as well, none of them really like the place.

Also strong: Albany (great location!) and Stony Brook.

Zoosermom, my pleasure.

1) geneseo
2) binghamton
3) buffalo

Berkeley
Los Angeles
Irvine
San Diego
Davis
Santa Barbara
Riverside
Santa Cruz
Merced

Oops. Wasn't this another thread ranking the UCs?

off topic, but the buffalo forum is dead..... but would someone from maryland feel out of place at a SUNY? Buffalo in particular..like does it seem pretty residential? do like 80 kids from a class at a buffalo high school go there? also how do you pronounce SUNY? Im still deciding if I want to apply to buffalo or not.. thanks~!

Stony Brook and Maryland seem to have special relationship. For example, former Stony Brook President John Toll was hired by University of Maryland to be their Chancellor.

You would fit in at Stony Brook. Lots of diversity, cultural & geographical (lots of int'l students), etc.

Geneseo/Binghamton

Stonybrook

Buffalo/New Paltz/Albany

My favorite is SUNY at Plattsburgh. As LWashington indicated, it has solid academics and the location is gorgeous. The only caveat, of course, is don't even think about going there if really cold winters bother you.
My next favorite would be Oswego, followed by Potsdam (excellent music program). Potsdam students, by the way, are able to take classes at other nearby colleges (Saint Lawrence, Clarkson, and SUNY Canton).
Binghamton, which many people argue is the best SUNY, has a drab campus.
