What is the best state univeristy in New York?

In my opinion, SUNY Buffalo and Geneseo.

for economics and computer science major?

binghampton is the best suny and probably the best for economics.

however, stony brook is ranked very high for computer science and in general is the best science/math school in the suny sytem.

great information.

I know it's kind of early (class of 07), but I am considering apply SUNY school as my safety choice.

i'd pick buffalo. Binghamton is generally regarded as the "best suny" but buffalo makes up for what binghamton lacks in a city. I know many happy students at buffalo while a rather small percentage of my friends at bing. are truly thrilled about their educational and social experience.

check that, stony brook and binghampton are about even in terms of economics strength and stony brook is far better for computer science. however, stony brook is really a commuter school with even less of a social scene than binghampton. but its really just which school you like better.

I mean if people are willing to go as far as Buffolo for a better city life, they should just right cross the border, and apply University of Toronto, or Vancuver...

Stony Brook has the best Computer Science program among the SUNYs. It's located in Long Island, so it's probably the closest SUNY to the city (not considering SUNY's Downtown medical center). Binghamton is considered the best place to go for an undergraduate education, plus I've heard it invests heavily in its Accounting program. Buffalo is also not a bad choice, and neither is Albany.

but how does Comp Science program in Stony Brook rank nationally?
