SUNY STONY BOOK - 2023 Decisions

@nasa044 The tab means you got accepted. It will take a day and a half or so for your application status to change to “accepted.”

Accepted!
GPA: 3.34
SAT: 1150
In-state. I applied 12/1/18 just saw my new student tab today 2/27/19.

CONGRATULATIONS! @gsbc12 My older son is a SB grad and he loved SB! I am still waiting to hear about admission for my youngest son–he has 1200 SAT and about 87-88 average so I know his chances are slim, but I’m still hoping. His stats are similar to yours though so I am encouraged! Did you apply for a particular major/program? Did you write an essay or do an interview or anything extra?

@freddiefresh Thank you! I applied as a journalism major and I am in-state. Since most people apply to SBU for sciences I feel like this helped. I wrote the essay on the common app where they asked you to focus and explain one of your extracurriculars. Besides this, I did nothing else. I hope your son gets in!!

@freddiefresh @gsbc12 Did you apply RD or EA? My DD is still waiting…she applied for civil engineering program. GPA was about 89 SAT 1490. Do we stand a chance?

If I got in with 1150 I think your daughter has a good shot. @ny_mom3

Anyone else still waiting?

yes, still waiting :((

My son finally got those new student tabs. Still doesn’t say accepted though. How long after will it change. It’s decision time for him soon. Rutgers, Fairfield, Stony or U Conn. although I’m a stony alumni I think we are starting to move away from it. Too crowded from what I heard and getting worse. Let’s see.

About a day or two. Agreed it was my sons first choice, but now concerned about the tripling situation.

The portal was updated yesterday. Unfortunately Stony Brook looks like it is dropping on his list. The tripling issue concerns us, it wasn’t an issue when I went by when my brother went in 92 they had to triple because they were renovating Roth and those two years were rough. I even remember that kids couldn’t get housing and had to find it off campus. And the population is only growing now.

@HSinLI Could you explain the issue? Are you referring to triple dorm rooms? Thank you

Yes the triple dorm rooms and also I heard it takes 45 min just to board the buses if you park in commuter lot. I heard the stem classes are also overcrowded. Maybe I heard wrong.

Most of the 90% of freshmen that chose to live on campus should be expected to be tripled, as well as new incoming transfer students.

That’s a high number. Just don’t know how they share 2 desks

Where can I find my merit scholarship info? Is it on SOLAR or do they send it via email?

New student tabs appeared yesterday - Finally!!

@Knight12345 I don’t think SBU has sent out any financial aid awards yet.

@Knight12345 Usually, they mail fiancial packages to your house first then it gets updated online (probably SOLAR?). I called the Financial Aid office yesterday and they said it’s supposed to come out in Mid-March, along with decisions on the Honors Program. I’m assuming is should arrive March 10-23, since that’s considered Mid-March

Congratulations! @Hockeymom4 what are your students’ stats and intended major? We are still waiting to hear.
