SUNY Stony Brook vs UCSD

So I got into UCSD and SUNY Stony Brook. The problem is, my expected cost for UCSD is $8800 after financial aid and grants, and I have a Provost’s Scholarship to Stony Brook which is a full time out of state tuition for four years. I really want to go to UCSD, but is it not worth paying for? I want to major in marine biology as well.

@TinySabs‌ Sorry I’m not answering your question as I have no idea, but approx. when did you receive your acceptance to Stony Brook?

Who will be paying the $8800? You ? your parents? What do your parents think?
If it is you, what is the average starting salary for someone with a marine biology degree?
WHich Marine Bio program is better? What do you want to concentrate on?
Where are you from?
Do you like snow?

I’m not an expert, but I would choose UCSD. 8800 isn’t overwhelming, and UCSD is very strong in science

Ucsd is a major player in marine biology. Can your parents afford the $8 800? Does that include room and board ?is that amount before or after the federal loans -5 500 typically?

It is not clear you are comparing apples to apples.

Is the UCSD $8,800 cost based on tuition only, or the “CA Resident Total” listed on https://students.ucsd.edu/finances/financial-aid/budgeting/undergrad-2014-15.html ?

Likewise, if you received a full-tuition scholarship to SUNY you still need to come up with student fees, room and board, indirect costs. These are listed on http://www.suny.edu/smarttrack/tuition-and-fees/ and look to be around $17,500 per year.

You need to look at your financial aid info and post accurate numbers here… what is the cost of attendance AFTER grants/scholarships, but before loans? How much loans would you need to take out? Do this exercise for both schools.

For marine biology, UCSD is indeed one of the best… but only if you can actually afford it without taking on overwhelming debt.
