So, i applied for this, notified for an interview. I'm wondering whether i should fly to Syracuse for this interview. I just transferred schools and interview date is during the time of orientation.

I guess my mentality was to take the spot if they accepted me and once I take my MCAT, i will start applying to other med schools. However, now im wondering whether its worth flying there (I'm from So Cal), since i will apply to other medical schools next cycle or the cycle after regardless. Any input is appreciated?

That’s a tough choice… it depends if you are really considering going to Upstate for medical school. If you are going to apply to other med schools anyways, once you send out AMCAS - Upstate will rescind their acceptance and you will be back to square one. It seems like you’re going to apply regular cycle regardless, so I would just enjoy orientation and be confident in yourself that you were even offered an interview after your sophomore year!

I agree, if you have no interest in attending there really isn’t a point in going. I do understand the fear of bombing the MCAT and looking for a way around it though.

Do they require you to take the MCAT and get a certain score?

They dont require any MCAT (the SAT supplements it)
But yea, im pretty sure ill still be taking the MCAT

Right now, I feel like i would have a tough time giving a reason “Why Upstate” during the interview, considering i never been there before and the website only gives brief info about it.

I would recommend wikpedia and an MSAR to suplement your knowledge of the school. Also, try to get there early so that you can wander around and talk to students, if you choose to go.
