Which of the SUNY's is Good for mechanical engineering and how do you get in ?

I have never heard of any SUNY school really specializing in engineering. SUNY Albany had one of the best up and coming nano-engineering programs in the world, supposedly. Their nano facility was really amazing.
And, I would definitely start by applying. They hate it when you just show up on the first day without doing so…

to be fair, none of the SUNY schools are among the top schools for engineering, in the US News rankings, the highest ranked SUNY were Stony Brook and Buffalo and they were in the 90s. I would go to SUNY-Buffalo over Stony Brook though. Here are the admissions standards for Stony Brook and Buffalo

Well, I know that Albany is the largest SUNY school, so that maybe you could find a well developed engineering program there?

"Well, I know that Albany is the largest SUNY school, so that maybe you could find a well developed engineering program there? "

Wrong. SUNY-Buffalo is the largest SUNY school. The only ranked engineering programs in the SUNY system according to US News is Buffalo and Stony Brook.

You people cannot take a leak without the bathroom being ranked by US News.

VegasSommelier, I am only mentioning US News in this case because US News measures the reputation of one school. I am certainly not saying only pick SUNY-Buffalo and Stony Brook because they are the highest ranked SUNy engineering school. I am just making the OP aware that most people only know these 2 schools for engineering out of the SUNY system.

And I am saying that there is more to college and life than a magazine ranking.
The best university for engineering, like most majors, is the one that offers you a diverse curriculum and collegiate experience, great internships/research in your desired field, a great opportunity to make connections and best prepares you for employment after graduation or for graduate study. Obviously there are schools in which engineering is a focus, so they are your starting point… but by no means are they your only options!
Everyone on this board needs a USNWR enema. Get over it.
