SUNYs with Suite Style bathrooms

Hi everyone, We’re on Long Island, where things are very real. My 17 year old daughter is looking at schools to which she should apply, and wants all SUNY. (She’s hoping to major in Elementary /Special Ed, and wants to graduate with certification.)

She brought up a great point the other day: that suite style bathrooms would probably be a LOT safer in terms of slowing the spread of disease. I know that Fredonia has some suite style rooms for freshmen-- are you aware of any other SUNYs that do?

Thanks, and stay safe.

Hey, stranger!

Hope all is well with you sheltering on LI, as we are.

S17 is graduating from Fred this year, a year early because he switched his major. Fred is best for those looking to be music teachers. It just started a 5 year program, but I am not sure if you can get a masters in sped there.

If she’s looking for a good SUNY educational program, try Plattsburgh. My D graduated from the 5 year program with an undergrad degree in childhood and elementary ed and a masters in Special ed. I’m not sure about suite style dorms, though, for freshmen. My D became an RA the second year. My second son did have a suite style after his first year at Plattsburgh.

Glad to see you.

hahaha good luck!

If your daughter is concerned about spreading a disease in college, then she shouldn’t even be in a dorm. If this is about COVID specifically, I don’t think SUNYs will be open if they think the spread of disease is imminent and dangerous to their students.

Does SUNY require you to stay in a dorm the first year or two?

But the hallway bathroom will be cleaned professionally once or twice a day.

I didn’t look into the academic offerings, so intrigued was I by the ask for ‘suite-style rooms’. I think that ‘Ha!’ upthread also sent me looking.

If you Google ‘suny suite-style rooms,’ you get pages of returns.

Then there is a rated list of mixed private and public schools rated for best dorm/on-campus living. There are videos. Some SUNY schools made the list:

Good luck.

Brockport has the new Eagle Hall with “hotel style” Two people per room and a bathroom. Not sure if it’s open to freshmen. For upperclassmen most rooms are suit style with 4-6 people a room (with their own separate rooms) and a bathroom.
