Super interested in WASHU??? (CHANCES)

So i'm am asking you to chance me and give me any advice you may have about admissions and scholarships at WASH U.

GPA: 3.56 unweighted out of 4.00
ACT Composite: 31
ACT Math: 33
ACT Reading: 30
ACT English: 31
Act Science: 33
Act Writing: 09
SAT Math 1: 720
SAT Chemistry: 690
Involved heavily in volunteer work, four different organization which i have leadership position or have organized projects.
My teacher/counselor recommendations are solid.
I am a Nigerian female interested in Chemical Engineering.
ran varisty track and field for all years at my high school

I'm really interested in going to Wash U and will probably visit in the spring. So, do i have good chances of getting in?

your grades are low for washu but your extracurriculars make up for them (but since i don’t have a complete perspective on all your ecs, i’m not sure on that either)

if you’re super interested, there is absolutely no harm in applying
i say work on your test scores and show INTEREST<-- this is a big one. if you a lot of interest, it could really boost your chances

“I am a Nigerian female”

You’re in.

^^ agree, except you left out the importance of “…interested in Chemical Engineering.”
You have got a terrific shot.
Good luck.

Thanks a lot for your positivity. I think my diversity (being a female in science, being culturally underrepresented) will help but i don’t know if it will be enough.
For extra curriculars, i was in gospel Choir, i do volunteer work for a needy shelter closet, a food pantry, and an organization that raises awareness about dating abuse. I am pp[art of the Environmental Club and the Chemistry Club. ummm Have had two jobs etc. I feel like i have a nice chance, my gpa isn’t high enough but hopefully my essay will pick up some slack.

Do you live in the US now? If yes, how long have you lived in the US?

I was born in Nigeria and moved around when i was one. I did two years at a boarding school in Nigeria and my Nigerian culture is a big part of my life. I communicated this is my essay.

so what do you guy think?

While a Nigerian female in Engineering is obviously a plus on the Afirmative Action front, I don’t see it overcounting for a 3.5 GPA and 31 ACT. Would help more if you still lived in Nigeria. Although going to a boarding school there for two years does add a lot.

You didn’t mention what courses you’ve taken, so it’s hard to figure out more.

I’ve taken 4 years of math up to Calculus AB. I’ve taken 3 years of Social sciences (world History, american history, AP Psychology) I’ve taken 4 and a 1/2 years of science including the AP Chemistry and Honors Physics i am taking this year. I’ve of course had 4 and 1/2 years of English. I have taken two art classes, I did a Summer science program at Kettering University And was in the top 10 of the whole program. I can’t think of anything else right off the bat.

So what do you think?

I agree with marcdvl that you can’t be sure if your race and gender/intended major will offset your ACT score. Your GPA is inconclusive since GPA is all relative. What is your class rank? If you’re in the top 10%, that could help to offset the ACT. If you’re in the top 5%, even better.

It’s really a crapshoot for you; I think it’s basically a 50/50 chance and could go either way.
