Super low SAT score, what should do I do?

^
Your choice. I only offer…

Don’t judge book by its cover.

Just a update…

I applied to fordham and georgia tech.

I’m waiting for the decision from CMU.It’s coming on Jan.15th.
If I’m denied then I will also apply to Penn State and Ohio State.

When there is a couple minutes left, bubble in all the remaining questions. Make sure you don’t pick randomly though. Say there is multiple columns left- bubble in all A’s and then the next all B’s, etc. Chances are, the answers to some of the questions will fall into what you quickly bubbled.

Your Engl is pretty good from here—you express yourself very well in simple writing. You are not skilled in taking standardized, timed tests in Engl, that’s all. As you say, the questions are hard & there are so many of them.

This is going to sound funny but I think you would do well if you improved your vocab by getting a dictionary and “reading” it — not reading it word for word, but leafing through and finding words you do not know, and learning their meanings. Write a couple of sentences to yourself using them.

You working vocabulary is excellent but you are weak in “SAT words” because most of them are not used in day to day speech by native speakers, either.

Agree with Dunnin, or even take a year off to just learn English so you can get into better colleges.

Do you need financial aid? Much more would be possible with better scores.

Thanks guys I really appreciate ur responds.

My goal is to get into a college. If not I will go to a community college and then transfer.
I heared from Carnegie Mellon, and I was denied :frowning:
I think maybe Engineering is too hard for me, especially CMU, way too competetive.

I remember when Pitt sent me a mail in november and asked for SAT subjects test and school mid-year report, it seemed like a defer to me. So I’m waiting to see if I get lucky and get accepted there. But I don’t know when the decision’s coming and I hope it’s coming very soon.

83 on TOEFL is not exactly fine… Most universities recommend 100 or higher. Also, go sign up for the next ACT test. Harder math, no vocab on reading. Test for vocab-poor international students. Some international students with poor English skills I know went to top colleges like Rice, Pitzer, and UVA, but all of them were Thai royal scholars, who really are special cases. If you applied for financial aid, I’m sorry to tell you that you virtually won’t be accepted to college at all. Apply to your state university. Apply to public universities that are relatively easy to get in. I don’t really see a realistic match on your list of schools. For your information, I’ve seen Americans at my school with low SAT scores (close to yours) get into University of Mississippi and University of Alabama…

thanks guys!i just got accepted to syracuse university… So glad I made it. I haven’t heard from other colleges.

Does Syracuse have good engineering programs? Anyone knows someone went there? Please give me some suggestion. Thank u guys so much!

hey congratulations!!! So happy for you really!!! guess when its meant to b its meant to be nomatter how “low” you think your scores are… and maybe while you’re at Syracuse you can start working on a transfer to CMU, i think you’ll have a better chance then, since your english wont matter anymore and your mathematics is obviously pretty strong! GoodLuck!

Congratulations!

Thank u:)
I know! I was so surprised! I will work hard and hopefully go to cmu for graduate study.
