Ok so I’m doing the whole college
admissions process and I’m trying to
find schools where I would basically
be guaranteed admission. Here are
my stats: 4.37/3.98 GPA, 1770 sat,
27 act. My main extracurricular was
the music program in HS. I plan to
major in political science, and I’m a CA
resident. Any suggestions?
Non impacted CSUs if you can afford them.
Automatic full ride scholarship schools that you qualify for.
Look in the sticky in the admissions section for the automatic admission schools and their criteria. But check affordability.

Check everything for affordability. If you are awarded a scholarship that covers more than just required tuition and fees, the part that pays for your books, housing, meals, transportation, etc. might end up being considered taxable income, so have a plan for covering any taxes you might owe on that.
Your local in-service area Cal State should be a safety if you can afford the approximately $7K/year tuition. This is the cost if you commute. Local in-service applicant receive priority. The only exceptions would be SDSU and Cal Poly SLO whom do not guarantee that locals have the highest priority.
Thanks everyone! I will have already applied to CSULB and Cal Poly SLO, and I will definitely look into schools with automatic admission/scholarships. Does anyone know of any liberal arts schools with great merit aid?
I’m afraid your scores are not going to garner you any great merit aid.
What is your price constraint?
Sonoma State claims to be more LAC-like. Although it is impacted, it is probably not that hard to get admitted to. Your stats are way above its averages: http://www.collegedata.com/cs/data/college/college_pg02_tmpl.jhtml?schoolId=802
Truman State and University of Minnesota - Morris are other public LACs that have relatively low out-of-state list prices (similar to CSU non-commuter list prices, although not as much financial aid for you as a non-resident).
More public LACs can be found at http://www.coplac.org .
There are some the OP qualifies for, but it does not look like the schools are LACs (although the OP can study various liberal arts subjects at those schools).
You might qualify for merit aid at Whittier.
Thanks so much!
