So most of you know that there was a politically motivated pro-life ad today during the Superbowl (turning down liberal-leaning ads). Do you guys think that politically motivated ads have a place during the Superbowl?

I say no. The Superbowl has a history of purposely leaving out politically motivated ads because the Superbowl is supposed to bring people together and give us a break from the bombardment of political BS we get every single day. This ad opens up the door to turning to Superbowl into just another political arena and it needs to stop NOW before that door gets cracked wide open. I want one damn day a year where we don't have to have partisan bickering over this that or the other thing.

I don’t remember seeing that ad, romani, but it definitely shouldn’t be there, agreed.

There’s a time and place for political opinions, but not at this kind of national rah-rah happy-drunk event. I don’t even like football, but a lot of people do, and with ads like that who knows how many might get brainwashed lol?

It wasn’t what it was hyped up to be, but it has had controversy surrounding it the last few weeks- especially since they allowed this but turned down a pro-gay marriage ad.

I mean, if they network approves of it. But let’s say it was first come first served. Why should one be able to air over another? Because somebody wants to convey his/her thoughts on a much larger scale?

We were discussing something in our economics class and it went like this. There was an ad for a ‘gay dating website’ suppose to air during the superbowl and it was not approved. Do you think it should have been rejected?

That commercial showed two male saints/colts fans making out on a couch. It would’ve offended people a lot more than Tebow’s (and I’d be surprised if Tebow’s commercial even did offend anyone).

ThisCouldBeHeaven: I’m talking about from a political stand point. No money or financial or rating reason attached (Although that is somehow political). If they weren’t going to lose viewers should it have been removed because it might offend people?

Ok, not from a legal standpoint, but from a human/moral(?? not the word I’m looking for) standpoint, do YOU really want to watch ads about politics during the Superbowl? It is supposed to be a day of game, beer, and funny commercials with animals charging through the fence. Do YOU really want to start seeing “Support the right to life” or “Support gay marriage” etc during Superbowl Sunday?

Neither do i watch ads for politics nor opinions but just because people I don’t wanna see it, doesn’t mean other people don’t want to reinforce their opinion to a great population.

The reason so many were not happy that CBS aired the Tebow ad was because 4 yrs ago the United Church of Christ wanted to run an ad saying their church accepted everyone even Gays and CBS denied them the spot.

I think we all agree that everyone should have freedom of speech and that if you can pay for it, you should be able to air it. Especially on public airways like CBS, but they did deny The United Church of Christ their air time. Again, CBS can do this, but should they???

I personally feel like it’s a wast of money for Focus on The Family in that that Super Bowl is not where most people feel like being preached to or even the innuendo. Again, it’s their prerogative, but I think it was a waste of their money.

Many people did not even see the ad. I think some local stations did not play it in place of airing local ads. For instance where I live, it did not air. I am happy it was not played.

I don’t think anyone can deny that what CBS did whether right or wrong was a double standard though.

But seriously was I the only one effected by the dennys commercials? I mean at first I was like “ahh awesome free breakfast” but after the next few commercials I was like “damn the chickens are working over time just for me”. Ughhhh its like reverse peta.
