Superscore

I see many people asking if they should retake the SSAT and CC'ers say yes because schools superscore. I was just wondering which schools do this? Do a majority superscore or just certain ones? Names of the schools that do would be appreciated!

What is “superscore”?

If you take the SSAT more than once certain schools will take the highest scores from all of your SSATs.

Confused, I contacted 8 schools my son applied to after he took SSAT for the second time to ask if the results from the second test would be taken into consideration and heard back from all 8 schools: “Yes, we’ll look at the best scores and will add them into the application file.” In case you still want the list of schools for your reference:
Andover
Exeter
St. Paul’s
Deerfield
Hotchkiss
Choate
Middlesex
Loomis

They did not say, they’ll be looking at Verbal, Math, Reading scores separately and picking the best ones from both tests, though. They’ll consider them all, I guess.
Good Luck!

@Shirlie Thank you so much!

Does anyone know, if you have two test results on SSAT website and you put the schools down to see both scores, if they do see both. Or, just the most recent you put them to see?

My understanding is that you can choose which scores to report. Schools will know that you have taken the SSAT more than once, but only see the scores if you send all of them.

From SSAT:
If I test multiple times during the year, which scores are reported?
SSAT will send official score reports only to those schools you designate. However, please note that, if you test multiple times within the current test year, your official school score reports will indicate that you have multiple scores on file.

HailuMu: I took the SSAT twice and both reports do show up when schools look at your file.

thanks!

Now Im hoping the schools DD applied to do superscore since her math was very high on one and her verbal and reading very high on the other :)

@confusedonhades only the scores you let schools see will show up on your file. So if you took the november test and december test and you send schools your november test it will say you have multiple scores on file but will not be able to see the december scores.

@baseball25 I thought they saw both?

Choate told us that even though we sent 2 sets of scores, they only look at the highest scores. Aka the “superscore”.

So as an example (these are totally made up scores):

Nov Math 87
Dec Math 38

Nov Verbal 45
Dec Verbal 89

Nov Reading 99
Dec Reading 29

You’d end up with Math 87, Verbal 89, Reading 99

This is very helpful when you’ve done better on some sections the 1st time you took it, and better on other sections the 2nd time.

@confusedhades schools only see the scores for exams you allow them to see aka score recipient form for every exam you take.

@baseball25 Sorry about that. I missed the first sentence of your last post where you stated this fact.
