Im thinking of applying to Northwestern for the Fall semester 2011, and I was wondering if they take SAT scores from a single test, or superscored.
I took the Oct 09 SAT for the first time, and then again this May. I got a score of 2070 in my first attempt. I also plan on taking two subject tests this Oct/Nov.
What do you people think my chances of getting accepted at Northwestern are? And if someone could please answer my superscore question! thanks :)

I would say you have a pretty good chance. I was waitlisted with a 2060 sat. I heard northwestern does a lot of admissions based of interest. I guess that’s the case with most schools, though. I didn’t take advantage of that, but to be quite honest, NU normally accepts 5 or 6 kids from my school, but only 4 or 5 even applied. And most of us were probably “underqualified.” That probably saved me a rejection and got me on the waitlist. You;ll never know unless you try. Best of luck

CollegeGirl101, my son was accepted with a 2070 SAT, although he had a 33 on his ACT. Perhaps you can take the June ACT and see how you fare there. Also, despite my son’s relatively weak SAT, his grades, recommendations and extracurriculars were outstanding, so it’s not just one thing that will make or break you!

By now everyone should know that NU only counts M + V when looking at SAT scores. These are far more predictive than the total score. Also students with 2070 and a 33 ACT simply don’t submit the lower score. The bottom line is that successful applicants with M + V scores below 1400 usually have hooks or other strong EC.

I read a post somewhere from 2007, one stating that NU does superscore ACT scores, other stating they do not. However my thinking is if they accept two ACT scores, they have to be superscoring. I too will be intersted in knowing what is true practice at NU.

It is impossible to tell you what your chances at NU are with no further information.

I don’t know if you’re applying to Medill, but I’ve read that they do, in fact, look at writing section. The rest of the schools within NU do not, though.

Keep in mind that most schools do super-score. Logically, it is in their advantage to do so, since super-scoring makes them look more selective by upping the scores of their incoming class.

Also, I got a 2080 on my first try, and on my second it skyrocketed to 2260. I was surprised. It just goes to show you that it’s more about conquering the test than about intelligence.

NU does not consider SAT Writing at all. SAT scores below 1400 will not get you admitted. They do not superscore ACT and do not look at the writing component of that either. Very high SAT subject test scores in subjects relevant to your filed of study are given significant consideration.

^ I agree with the above poster. The fact that they don’t consider the W at ALL is a little eccentric though. When I visited, they told me it doesn’t play as much of a factor, not that they dont consider it at all.

I was waitlisted with a 1580/1600 SAT.

But I was a subpar applicant apart from my scores. Obviously, we can’t chance you just based on your SAT score. However, 2070/2400 isn’t that good.
