Superscore

Does CMU super-score? If it does it makes a 120 point difference for me!

Yes they do-- but you are required to send ALL scores.

You will know they’ve superscored b/c once you apply they list all your stats…and you will see the superscore components in your record rather than each individual test.

The common ap will show it too…

Do you know if APEA summer program from CMU helps raise chances for getting into CMU?

@kunal436 - if you get good grades you’re practically guaranteed admission.

if I get good grades in APEA, im pretty much guaranteed in? Doesnt that seem kinda easy? Everyone would take this course and get into cmu? is it really that easy…

I’d suppose they still look at the entire application carefully, but it would give you a good boost if you did well in the APEA program. Guessing that getting top grades in some of the extremely difficult weeder classes that CMU students regularly have to drop and repeat, or get poor grades in would be impressive. Surprising that they allow high school students to take these classes, really. Of course with the low acceptance rate of SCS, there are no guarantees, no matter what you do.

I think one of the reasons you’ll see a lot of lower grades in some of the courses offered during APEA is that you have a lot of non-majors taking them. For most of my technical friends the intro programming course was a cakewalk, while friends that were on the more humanities side tended to struggle with it. Likewise, during the APEA program you’re getting highly motivated students that are (hopefully) really interested in those topics, so they should be able to excel in that coursework.

thanks for your replies. Also, I am currently a junior in high school and over the 2012 summer, I am planning on taking this APEA course. I have pretty decent grades, and I am really inclined in going into CM SCS, so if APEA does give me better chances of getting in, then I am definitely going to take this course. Also, does anyone here know what would be the best 2 or 3 courses to take at APEA that are geared toward comp sci?
