I'm looking at a graduate program in biology (actually microbiology). The admission page says that finding a supervisor is one of the most important parts of the application. So if I find a supervisor, provided that my GPA stays decent (3.5+) and that I have several years of research experience, am I guaranteed to get in pretty much?

Finding a supervisor and getting a letter from them is required for the application. So unless they have a 100% acceptance rate, I don’t know how doing that could be guaranteed acceptance, since all applicants (who turn in a complete application) will be wielding a letter.

^ Unless the supervisor only supports as many applicants through the admissions process as they actually able to fund. I don’t know how graduate admissions works in Canada, but in Germany admission to the university is just a formality once you have an adviser.
