Supplement Essay Length

i have ran a few searches, none of them satisfied my question.

i wrote an essay with 521 words. i tried to go back and take out any unnecessary things, but was unable to find any. would it be perfectly fine, if i left it 521 words? or should i find a way to minimize the essay to 500 words?

"ESSAY QUESTION - Required for all applicants.
Please prepare a response to the following in 250-500 words (1-2 pages, typed) and paste it below:"

need this submitted by tonight. help ASAP please!

BUMP.

this is urgent. i’ll have to do much revising if i must cut it down to 500 words. help please!

anyone also willing to go over this essay? it may need some revising. i would greatly appreciate it.

last bump.

can anyone please go over my essay? i need to submit it by 12, which is in 15 minutes! PM me and i’ll PM you back with my essay.

I did 530 for a strict limit of 500 words. It may not have been best, but look at it this way, who is going to count every single word? Go 800 and they’ll know you went over, but my guess is 520 looks like 500. By the way, MIT counts, but I cannot imagine anyone else doing so. Where are you applying?

I have several easy-to-use suggestions:

Eliminate all words with 3 or fewer characters.

Find an AP-English-Comp geek and offer $5 to wield the ax.

Same as #2 with any School newspaper editor.

Find the paragraph exactly 2/3rd of the way down - eliminate it!

A bit harder: Most people are redundant, saying the same thing
again and again. Find and eliminate redundancies.

Yes, some are silly, but others are not.
Don’t be so in love with your own words.
