Hi! I submitted my app a couple days ago, but I’m unsure if the writing supplement was submitted. When I log onto the portal it gives me the option to Upload Materials, should I re-upload the document that I put on the commonapp’s supplement or can I submit additional documents? The commonapp says I submitted the writing supp, but I’m just not sure because it doesn’t appear on the portal check list.

Harvard’s portal is not updated in real time; it’s manually updated. So, a person in the Admissions Office needs to download your supplement, print out a copy for your paper file, add a pdf of it to your electronic file, and then update the portal. With 30,000 applications that takes time – weeks in fact. If the portal has not been updated by the 3rd week of January, then I would notify Admissions to find out what happened. At the moment though, I would give them time to sort it all out.
