Supplement essays

Hi, would appreciate any info on the following questions:

I see that colleges such as JHU, Cornell, Columbia, Berkeley, Caltech etc. have not yet put out their Fall 2011 supllement info on their websites. Are these available thru the common app? So unless these essay topics are out, one cannot really work on them- I guess you can work on some generic topics in the hope that they can be used later.

Some high schools use Naviance; how does this work when asking teachers to submit recos? Students would submit a common app, to say, JHU.To have a reco sent to JHU what is the process with Naviance/Common App? Common App is very cryptic about Naviance, simply saying once you give some info to the teachers/guidance counselor at your school, something will show up on the Common app. Any one has experience with this process?

Are supplements also submitted thru Common App? This does not seem right- each college has its own requirements, so how does this work? Also, if you want to send music/art worrks/CDs/DVDs, you have to mail it each college. Common App again says all these go thru them!

Thanks, much.

-I didnt have any experience with Naviance

-I am going to send a science supplement to each college by mail and anything further additional. It doesnt seem logical to send them through Common App.How can be?:/
