Hi guys, are we supposed to just list the books we've read or go into some details regarding each?

“List…” Source: Common App Columbia Supplement.

although i’m not sure what you mean by details. i, for instance, chose to include titles because i listed a few books with titles that described several books (ie. Underworld by Don DeLillo as opposed to Underworld, a book about zombies based on a video game). once i’d included authors for a few, i decided to just authors for all given that i wasn’t too cramped for space, and felt like being consistent and neat.

lol yes i know it says “list” but they do give a lot of space for just sending in a laundry list of books we’ve read so I was wondering if we should at least say a few points about the books to show that we have indeed read them. Anyone can just copy/paste a list of interesting books, no?

i just listed titles. i didnt even put down authors or descriptions.

They don’t give you THAT much space, and they only gave you 300 characters in the past. It’s just a list of books; they trust that you’re honest.

also please take into account, that this isnt where they will make or break your application, but look at it to get to know you. so even if you were to put underworld based on the video game, if it genuinely applies to you, they might appreciate it…

This is just another opportunity for them to know more about you as a person. It’s not so much to see if you’ve read the most famous or long books, but rather to see what you do with your free time. I listed a combination of political graphic novels, some fantasy novels, and some political dramas. A list should suffice.

whassup lindazhaang, just wanna say I have a friend named Linda Zhang (which I assume is ur name) GG haha

Okay thanks for the input guys! This makes my life much easier. And to collegeftw, it’s a very common name lol unless we do know each other in real life. :O
