Does sending in a supplement through commonapp.com mean that you are sending your commonapp at the same time as well? Also, does sending a supplement lock your commonapp so that you will not be able to make any changes to it?

No, yes (I believe).

No, no.

I believe you can still make changes to the your common app after submission of just a supplement. However, once you submit the common app to any school, it's locked.

No and No. I've done both before.

If anyone can confirm that you can still make changes to the common app after submitting a supplement then I've got a whole bunch of supplements to go submit.

vvv okie dokie here i come submit button

Well, I submitted a supplement in October and was able to make changes to my common app until December (when I submitted the app to a school), so I assume it holds true.

I submitted a supplement to Darthmouth in Novmeber
And I am still making changes to my main Common App. So it's ok.

Just make sure that you attach your supplement to the correct version of the Common App. I sent in some supplements early for RD schools, and now all those supplements are attached to the locked version of the common app that I used for my EA schools. Not a major deal, but I would have liked to update my awards on my RD apps.
