supplement question length

One source stated that around 140 words is the ideal.

Also, is there a difference between supplement questions and essays?
If the required length is not stated and if the question itself does not specify if it is a question or a essay prompt, is it safe to assume that it is a question rather than an essay prompt?

The questions are for Colorado College's supplement.

How did you learn about Colorado College and why do you wish to attend?

The Block Plan at Colorado College has a tradition of innovation and flexibility. Please design your own three-and a-half week intellectual adventure and describe what you would do.

uh.

There is a difference between questions and essays, but all of my schools specified the length they wanted. One of my colleges was basically the same as “How did you learn about X and why do you wish to attend?” and it told us to write about 200 words.

As for the second, I’d personally write a little more than 200 because it looks like they want something more indepth. Don’t go past 400 or so if you want to be safe.

This is all just speculation but I don’t think they want full essays here.

Thank you rebeccar, this sounds very sensible. I think the reason for there being no word limit is because of the small size of the school and the resulting fewer applications. I have also sent an email to one of the admissions officers I met a while ago to see if she confirms this.

As for now, I’ll write a long version and revise the short one.

For anyone’s benefit, I’ll post what she says after I recieve word.
