For the question on the supplement that states "list the other colleges that you are applying to" do you have to put down every college that you are applying to? Can I just put the colleges that are on the same level as Rice(Such as Duke, Vandy, UNC) or do I have to put my safety schools(such as Indiana or UFlorida) and the schools in between (UTexas, Michigan, Wisconsin, Miami) too? Thanks for any help.

The question is (or at least used to be) optional. It is for research purposes and will not affect your admission decision. If you don’t feel comfortable listing every school, then perhaps list a few from each category? It’s really up to you.

^What adamb said. Don’t fret over this at all, just put whatever you feel comfortable with. It’s not going to be a huge deal either way. Best of luck! :)

Oh yea I just noticed that it was optional. So I could just put down my other 3 schools that are right up there with Rice and be okay?

Yea, but why wouldn’t you just list them all?

Because Rice is sort of my Reach school so wouldn’t they think down of me or something when I put all the schools where most of them are not as good as Rice academically.

^^ No. As mentioned, this does not have any impact on your decision. Rice understands that people apply to a range of schools.

My son’s college consultant said it was none of Rice’s business and told him not to list any of the colleges that he was applying to and he got into Rice anyway!
