supplement question

Hi, I'm applying to Caltech this fall. I just have a question regarding the supplement.
When it says we're allowed to submit a research paper (optional), are we allowed to submit one that deals with political science dealing with framing issues in the upcoming election based off of the book Moral Politics by George Lakoff?

I'm not sure whether or not the research has to be science (specifically bio/physics/chemistry) or if politics/economics is allowed as well.

any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I don't know why not. The more math/science in your essay, probably the better. But if you have a politics paper and you think it will reflect well on you, then I would think you should submit that. If it were economics, then clearly I would. You CAN actually get a degree in economics at Tech!

While true that you can be an Econ major at Tech- not a single frosh to my knowledge has ever come to Tech as a declared Econ major- and I don't know anyone who's graduated with only an Economics degree. Most of them tack on Econ as a double- though I could be wrong.

Ben Golub, who was frequent poster, did major in econ and is pursuing grad school in same. He was a UG rep for admissions. His posts were consistently thoughtful. If you have the inclination, read some of his posts in the archive section.

Although this in no way invalidates bookworm's advice, it's worth pointing out that Ben was a math major. I thought he doubled in math and econ but his CV only lists math, so I'm not entirely sure.

My mistake. After several years, I probably forgot his major. Ben went to Stanford in econ, right?

Yes, he's at Stanford in economics :)
