Hi everyone, I'm debating on whether or not I should send in an additional recommendation. I am already getting two recommendations from school teachers (math and english) which will be great, fyi. I work at a science museum and the additional recommendation would come form the perosn in charge of the volunteers. I have been there for four years and she, and eberyone else there, absolutely LOVE me. Would it be worth sending it in? I'm really worried because it is nothing compared to other letters people get from research professors and such.

As long as this person will provide insight into your personality and character that is different from that provided in your other letters, then by all means you should do it.

I am also wondering if I should send a fourth recommendation letter. The fact is that the fourth teacher does know me well from different perspective compared with previous teachers, but I wonder if Duke will accept the fourth letter?

How do we send the rec to duke?

I am not sure a 4th teacher rec. would be helpful. My son’s Duke application included an extra letter, but it was from a sibling and provided an entirely different perspective on his personality/accomplishments than teacher letters.

For the OP I do think a letter from the volunteer manager (after 4 years) makes great sense. My guess is that it will sound a lot different from the teacher letters.

I agree with westernedge’s assessment, although I would be more forceful. Four teachers simply will not provide four unique perspectives on an applicant’s intellectual curiosity and impact in the classroom. It is highly likely that even three teachers will have largely redundant information. There is a reason that Duke specifically asks for two.

The volunteer manager, with four years of association, will probably have something to add to the two required teachers.
