So I'm planning on applying to Stern this year.

I am sending in two letters of rec: from a math and english teacher. Both online using the commonapp.

I have also had a three year job working in my mother's company (she is my employer). I want to send a rec from her; it will be objective so no worries about that. Obviously I have to mail this rec directly to NYU, which is where the question arises: do i give my college counselor a copy of this rec to attach onto the schoolforms? or can i simply have her send it directly to them?

Also, her company mailbox is the mailbox that i use. If the admissions team see this, will they think something sketchy is going on? Dilemma!

I think it is simple enough to set up a new email mailbox, if that is what you are referring to. Though I am not sure the admission will pick up on the same mailboxes unless there is someone who is very detail-oriented. Remember they are flooded with lots of data from each and all applicants. I used to look at main points and themes when I was reading applications. Though there is a small chance I might look at the addresses (emails) and make connection to the applicant’s address (email).

I think you have to make sure your mom’s recommendation is as objective as possible since it is easy to assume the parent will be subjectively leaning favorably towards the child in a biased manner. How the recommendation letter is written is important and should include some comments on areas of growth/ challenges for you. I believe you can include a recommendation form and give it to your mom to fill out and send back separately.
