On the common application supplement there is a question asking why the applicant is applying to his chosen school of study. The room given to answer is small, so is it ok to attach an essay that is considerably longer than the length that is suggested by the few lines that are given?

No. The point of it is just to see the reason you're applying to that particular school knowing that it's non-binding, it doenst want an essay. It's a short answer. Make it a few sentences. Save the long part for the actual essay.

if you feel it is that important, maybe you should call them about it.

I don't know if I did mine correctly, but mine was about half a page long (double space, times new roman, 12).

Hope that helps :)

whats the point of the common application? why not use the actual rice application. thats the one i used

reply for sergio:

since i was applying to many schools, i just did the common app and send it in through the website with one click.

doing separate supplements was much easier than doing separate applications.

:-)

I used the common app too, I think. I don't even remember now. I had applied for like 5 schools with the common app and 3 without.

i looked at the common application and it looked like more work that the rice application.
