I know I know...500 words max. But...I've already cut 100 words and AHHHH. So, what do you guys think is an appropriate amount to go over? Under 550? Thanks a lot! =]]

the supplement is not out yet or are you a freshman?

password I had the same problem, but my guidance counselor told me NOT to go over because usually when there are word limits, the esssay will cut off at the correct word count when it is submitted to colleges! I couldn't believe it so I asked on CC and it seems to be true. I was able to cut my essay down to 499 from 538, but it wasn't easy! Good luck!

cut it down - admissions doesn't want to guess if you 1) ignored the clearly laid out directions, or 2) can't write in a clear and concise manner. Neither is a good label.

I don't see why people can't just follow the directions. If it says 500 words, then keep the essay to 500 or less. When I was doing secondaries for med school, we had "essays" where the limit was 500 CHARACTERS and that's what we had to keep our responses to.

thanks guys =] cut cut cut.

reminds me of a college info session....the AdCom said that they WILL read everything that is submitted, while at the same time wondering why the applicant can't follow instructions. :)

a major part of what makes a great essay is the writer's ability to write clearly and concisely in getting across or answering whatever question is posed to him/her

in other words...cut that down now
