Supplemental essay, good idea?

Is it a good idea to attach a slightly longer essay (longer than the one required on the application) as a supplemental essay? It addresses the topic "why I'm choosing the major I'm choosing" and is 700 words.

Depends on what school; do they have an option for that? If it's a big school, they might not want extra reading, but I think it's usually ok.

Most colleges have a mechanism by which an applicant can attach a supplemental essay or other information. However, 700 words seems really long--you should try to cut out 100-200 words. After all, it's extra stuff the adcom has to read--get to the point quickly.
