So for the Michigan supplemental essay "Describe the unique qualities that attract you to the school in which you are applying," I basically wrote about how I'm an undecided major and how being an LSA student would give me a chance to explore a multitude of disciplines, etc. BUT I also get into basically why I want to go to Michigan, and I mention ways in which I would thrive at Michigan in ways OTHER THAN ACADEMICS.

Is that ok? Or is this essay strictly for academia?

That’s basically what they’re asking for, so yeah. I was in a similar boat as you and wrote something along those same lines. They want to know what about the academics appeals to you but they also understand that a huge part of college is the social/community/artistic/entertainment aspect and they want to hear what attracts you to that part of it as well. Just keep it as concise as possible and you’ll be fine.

In working on your essay, don’t limit your thoughts on why you want to go U-M and you will do well there but think about reasons that U-M would want you to go there. Part of university admissions is selecting students whom they think will contribute to the university community. How will presence at U-M make U-M a better experience for others who will be there? Think about collaborative learning experiences.
