For Hopkins and W&M supplements, I am asked to discuss something about myself that wouldn't otherwise show on my other application materials. I really want to write about video games (I am passionate about Pokemon and Harvest Moon) but I am afraid that the admissions offices will find that strange or inappropriate. My other essays focused on more acceptable topics.

Just for reference, I have all A's, 2310 SAT, and am a competitive state-level swimmer.

Why not? I believe that if you are really passionate about something, you should write about it. It also shows that you’re not just someone glued to academics but a person who knows how to have fun as well. Although if you are passionate about something else that is more productive I think you should write about that instead.

P.S. For one of my MIT essays I wrote about fantasy football :D

Instant rejection.

In other words: I would advice against doing it…

Write about what you like…
I read somewhere on this forum that someone wrote about Minecraft and get accepted into MIT…

I wasn’t going to say that the video games are my life. I was going to connect it with other things in my life and say it’s something I enjoy as a side hobby. Nevermind I guess I’ll write about something else–thanks everyone!
