i just wanted to know how many supplemental essays one has to submit apart from the commonapp essay. in the pton app supplement, theres like an option to send the essay- how many of the Ed accepted have like written additional essays? and if so, how many?

I didn't send an optional essay -- I didn't have anything additional to say.

I didn't write the supplemental essay because I was too lazy.

Ah right... lol friendofdarwin, thanks for reminding me. I didn't have any ideas for the supplemental essay because I was still working on my last short essay 3 hours before the deadline.

so frozen tears u just did the 2 essays out of the five topics given on Nations Service,Albert Einstein curiosity, etc etc? thats it? and is it ok if u exceed the word limit like by about 50 words .....

Mmm... actually I used Princeton's own online app. I did the historical event, something that sparked my curiosity, and my favorite quote. I also did the engineering essay.

50 words over should be fine. My long essay was about 580, shorts were about 280 and 290. A lot of the '09ers really went over the wordcount, too, if you looked farther back.

thnaks but i though u had to just do 2?

Yes, just two of the short essays if you're using common app.

I was bugging out about going over My long essay ended up being 766 words and my short ones were 283 and 245, and I got in. I don't think it matters that much, as long as you're not talking about your trip to the beach.

I wrote my Common Application essay about my childhood obsession with a random exotic animal and it eventually led me to go seek it out in its home country of Australia, replete with humorous parenthetical musings.

My supplementary ones for Princeton were about the Einstein quote, which I wrote about how going to see other countries' ancient civilizations piques my interest and my awe when I climbed to the top of a Mayan ruin. Then I used the "Person who has influenced you the most" to write about an an anarchist uncle I have who introduced me to politics at an early age, especially when I was 8 and heard he was jailed in Greece for passport errors.

Corny? Or...good. I got rejected from Wharton after writing some blah essay about the moment I decided I wanted to go into business so I figure I should do some essays that are a bit quirkier. Good choice?

i hope no one minds me sticking my question in here, but do you have any idea about princeton's attitude about the common app? do you think they get sort of egotistical and prefer people that do all of their questions rather than the common app?

I'm in a bit of a bind here:

One of my 'short essays' (the one about the quote) is around 422 words. Do you think that will be a negative when adcoms look over it? (It barely fit in the online box BTW)
