Supplemental Materials

can sending in supplemental materials only help an applicant? i'm thinking about sending in a music supplement and research abstracts to the schools i'm applying to but obviously, i don't want these materials to hurt my application in any way if the admissions people think they suck. would admissions disregard any materials that don't improve an application? or would admissions be impressed simply by the fact that a student has gone beyond what is required and sent in supplemental materials? any feedback/responses would be greatly appreciated!

in case it helps, here is a list of the schools i'm applying to:
uchicago, columbia, cornell, dartmouth, duke, johns hopkins, MIT, NYU, upenn, princeton

thanks!
