I'm planning to send a package to the admissions office containing my research paper, and I'm wondering if I should include a resume as well. I don't think that I have much else to put on there past what's already detailed in the Common App, but do most people attach resumes as additional documents?

And does sending in such a supplemental thing help out in the admissions process? It's a video, research paper, and essay putting the research in context of my goals.

Uhh that’s kind of a lot…is it all completely necessary?

I sent a resume because my extracurriculars would have broken the CommonApp activities section format if I included all the necessary information; it can be a good idea.

It’s just–video, research paper, and essay? And resume? There’s approximately 40 admissions staffers going through approximately 40,000 applications, which means they have about a thousand applications to read, each. They are supposed to read everything you send them (except sometimes all of long samples of academic work), but you don’t want them hating you by the end of it.

That said, I’m not a science person. I’ve heard mixed opinions about sending scientific research, but I don’t have an opinion myself about just the research paper. (I do have opinions about research and video and resume and essay.)

Hmmm, well they ask to submit a short statement putting the research in context, along with the research paper ([Harvard College Admissions § Applying: Supplemental Application Materials](http://www.admissions.college.harvard.edu/apply/application_process/supplements.html)) and the video details a project for an EC that I spent like 400 hours on last year, so I feel like that is important.

But ya, I see where you’re coming from. No resume then!

I actually already have the cover letter written, per their instructions, but it simply details what the package contains. Thanks for the opinions!
