Will my chance at Berkeley crash if I don't submit a recommendation? My school only allows students to request recommendations at a certain time of year, and that time has passed.

Any input?

Is getting the questionnaire a bad thing? Does that mean I’m almost denied and this is the last step to save the day? I’m so confused! Please help!

There is no recommendation form that the school fills out. it is a URL - a web link - that you pass along to one person to offer the recommendation. Since the UC system only asks a few thousand of the applicants for these, with no advance warning, no counselor worth anything at all would penalize a student because the ‘deadline is past’. Therefore, I would NOT ask that counselor for a recommendation. Go find any teacher who you think might give you a positive reference, talk to them directly and tell them that out of the blue, the admissions group at Berkeley asked for one reference to be typed in online. Give the teacher the URL, they can enter it for you, and you will see a check mark on your myberkeleyapp site when they have done it.

I agree with rider. Just go directly to the teacher of your choice and ask them. Our school has the same policy and since DD only applied for UC’s, she hadn’t even filled out the rec packet. Her Chemistry teacher seemed thrilled to help her gain admittance to Berkeley. High schools want their students admitted to top schools. Just ask. Good luck!
