Supplemental Recommendations

I mailed in two additional recommendations (one from a mentor I've known for 6 years, another from a college professor) for my MIT application. However, I just noticed this message on the MIT admissions blog:

"If you decide a third recommendation is necessary, have your recommender send this via US Mail to MIT Admissions, and be sure your full name and date of birth are included."

First of all, do you think sending two extra recommendations is too much, even if they both add a lot of insight into who I am?

Secondly, is it a problem that I collected these two letters from the recommenders and mailed them together, rather than letting the people mail it themselves?

It should be fine.

Neither is a problem.

You're allowed to send as much supplemental material as you want, and the admissions officers aren't going to get "angry" if you send supplemental material that they explicitly allow. Two letters that both showcase different aspects of you will be helpful to the admissions committee as they evaluate you, and are in no way over the top.

It's not a problem that you collected the letters. They're all opened in the mail room and put in your file regardless of who physically mailed them.
