Supplemental Recs

How many is too much? Cause I find myself preparing to send in 3/4.

Including the teachers and GC? Or in addition to those? If the latter, that's probably too many.

In my case, I'm thinking about (total) three teachers, my GC, and possibly the head of the local Young Astronauts chapter (I've helped out for several years, and she knows me well). I'm definitely sending the teachers and GC, but should I drop that last one?

I have recs from 2 research mentors, a math professor from local university, and "leadership" recommendation. They all are saying different stuff, so guess? Argh, this is the only thing so far to bother me.

The MIT admissions website lists the 3 "recommendations" they expect you to submit:

Two Teacher Evaluation Forms - Evaluation A is to be completed by a math or science teacher, Evaluation B is to be completed by a humanities, social science, or language teacher.
Secondary School Report Form - This form is to be completed by a guidance counselor or principal.

The GC form does include a text section in addition to just being a list of HS facts. Beyond these 3, which they expect to see from everyone, they'll accept others, but only if they add a significant further context to your application. And sending 4 in addition to the 3 above is most likely overkill. I'd recommend selecting the one or two additional recs that truly round out your application and just asking those people to write for you. It's sort of like many other things: quality over quantity, showing an ability to differentiate. ;) They're unlikely to instantly dump extra recs into the trash can, but I'd suggest you consider the process the admissions folks go through and think, "Does this rec add something really new to the picture they have of me?" before you send it. Then make your own decision. :)

I intend to send 1 or 2 additional recommendations. The first one will be from the head coach of the Bulgarian Team of Informatics, since I have been in it for 3 years.
