I am presently editing a soccer demo for all of my prospective college coaches. Is it too late to send such information?

My parents seem to believe it will aid my chances of admission as well. Will it? In addition, they want me to send a 5-6 min video of my speech on the topic of leadership (for NHS). Should I? They argue that it illustrates how articulate and handsome (...their words not mine, lmfao) that i am (or can be :P).

Any input is appreciated...thnx!

Are you in touch with the soccer coach? If he wants to see the demo, send it in to him, not the admissions office. If you aren't good enough to be recruited, then don't send in the demo. The admissions office will see you had soccer as an EC and doesn't need to see the demo of an athlete that isn't of recruitment caliber. If you are recuitable, then the soccer coach will evaluate your talents, not the admissions office.

Absolutely do not send in the tape of the speech. If you look at the FAQs on the Yale admissions website, you'll see how strongly they discourage supplementary materials. If you were speaking an the innauguration, then it would be worth sending in, but some random speech is BAD idea. Most Yalies are articulate and Yale doesn't care if you're handsome or not. It's great that your parents are proud of you, but your video would just make and admissions officer groan.

^^^ha, i didn't think it would be wise to send the speech...silly parents

as far as soccer goes, i know i am good, but maybe not D1 good. I sent in the recruitment form and haven't heard back. I'll try e-mailing him today. i would like to just send the tape to the coach and let him decide for himself.

thanks for the help

If you're not on the coach's radar at this point, it may be too late. You might want to post a separate thread about athletic recruitment at Yale. There are parents who check this forum whose kids were recruited athletes and have first hand knowledge. My sense is that the form should have been sent in months ago and, if it was, not hearing back indicates that you're probably not of recruitment caliber.
