I am planning to send a supplementary recommendation from the professor guiding my research, as well as slides of some artworks. I have two questions. For the art supplement, when should they arrive for EA? The application guidelines state the Nov. 1 deadline for the main application material, but say nothing of deadlines for supplementary material. Also, for the supplementary recommendation, are there any confidentiality guidelines to follow? Would it be alright for me to simply take the letter and send it myself? Thank you in advance.

Re: artwork, get it in as soon as you can. By Nov. 1 at the latest.

I don't think there's a written rule about this, but the best thing to do is to stamp and address an envelope to Harvard admissions (make sure it says re: Student's Name) and give it to the professor so he can send it directly.

Good idea. Thanks for the answer.

However, I am a bit concerned about the supplementary artwork date, since I probably won't be able to get it together before then. I don't think they explicitly stated the deadline for that. Is it possible, then, that they will consider the material even if they arrive past the Nov. 1 deadline?

this will probably alarm you, but but don't take my word for it... i thought i had read somewhere on the application that they were accepting supplementary materials no later than Oct 15th, so i rushed to get my a CD with JPEGs on it as soon as i could. chances are though that they will continue to accept right until the deadline....but probably not afterwards

You can send CDs with JPEGs on them? I was planning to send my JPEGs to a slide service to produce slides. The application said they accept slides of artwork and CD recordings of music. I didn't think they accepted CD-ROM content. If that's the case, I can easily get it in by Nov 1.

i called admissions and a girl there said anything was okay

wait, for teh supplementary recommendation-if you put the student's name in the Re:, how would that be different from sending it in yourself?

I was wondering about that myself.

I thought the recommendations (either supplementary or not) were supposed to be send by the teachers. We as the students are supposed to hand them an stamped envelope with _________ (insert university's name) address on it and it's the teachers job to write their name, address etc. on that envelope and to ulitmately send it.

I have another question. Originally I planned to send two common app recommendations and one supplement. But then I saw in another thread that 4-10 recommendations are the norm. Is that really case? I am now contemplating adding 2 more supplemental applications.

Also, what about sending my 20 page research paper with the application? A lot of my activities, awards, and parts of my essays focus on my research. Would it be a good idea then to include the paper, the culmination of my efforts?
