How does Stanford view Supplementary Material? I know they frown upon resumes and such. I'm considering sending in a research abstract (will they still add it to my file if it's past Dec. 15?). I'm figuring it'll help more than hurt. Did any of you guys send in research abstracts and get in?

I don't think Stanford wants any supp materials (unless it's REALLY REALLY good, like art). If they DO look at it, they'll probably accept it a few days past the deadline.

I sent in an abstract. On my acceptance letter there was a note on the bottom saying that they hoped I'd keep up my research at Stanford, so I'll assume they read it and it helped.

That's comforting, thanks marlgirl :)

marlgirl -
were any of ur 4 essays by any chance about science research? cuz the "personal note" thing could have been only mentioning the essays...

Good point... yes my intellectually interesting idea one was about research.

Awesome, mine too.

I think I was the only person at my school to send in Supplementary Material for Stanford EA admissions; I was the only one (out of about 10) who was accepted for admissions. (I sent in 10 prints of artwork.) I think they will definitely work to your advantage (make sure to consider the relative "outstanding-ness").

beyond9001: But you're artwork was covered by the optional arts form at the end of the application, wasn't it? That's a little different than research, since they explicitly say they will have faculty members review art materials.

ooh ic what you're referring to, ya, mine was the opt. art form thing, (sry, i tend to refer to anything outside the app as suppl. mat. ^.^;;)

[ ahh! they converted my parentheses to a face! " ^.^ ;; ) " ]

Well, I figure the worst they'll do is not read it. Are their admission offices closed the next 2 weeks?

Despite that they say they don't like extra stuff, I don't think they'll be angry or anything that you sent something. I love how they seem so laid back about everything! I called the admissions office twice to ask stupid little questions and they were SO nice both times and made me feel really relaxed.
