Supplementary Materials as a Writer?

Hi, I am an international student definite on applying to Yale among a host of other colleges. Writing is my passion, and it is reflected in my extracurricular activities. I was thinking of submitting one of my essays, however on the website they say they prefer samples, which really doesn't work for a critical analysis (in my opinion). I also run a blog, which consists of my own articles of opinion (about 600-800 words long) on current topics. Now, I know that Yale says they will ignore links to blogs on their site, but this isn't a run-of-the-mill blog they are referring to (they group blogs with social networking sites). I know that I could just place it on my EC list but I don't think that it would mean much to the admission officers there.

Any advice?

Note: I am applying in a year. I just wanted to do some research now instead of when I'm scrambling to finish off all my apps.

If it were me, I would use the application essays to showcase my writing prowess, instead of sending them additional material to read. The adcoms have a very limited amount of time to get through everything in your file, you don’t want to bog them down (most likely, they won’t read it).

if it’s something really exceptional that you’ve won awards for then you should submit it.

I second @kendrickgirl. I personally know someone who was truly an exceptional writer; he sent substantive poems (that won awards), a lengthy research paper, etc. and got into Yale RD.
