Supplementary materials: good or bad idea?

On the Harvard Supplemental, there is the optional section that allows the applicant to send in music, artwork, etc., if the material is "unusually advanced." I'm considering sending some of my photos in, but I'm not sure whether they meet that criteria. Should I send them in? Will it hurt me if the pics don't live up to their expectations? Follow this link to see my photos:

I would truly appreciate any feeback. Thank you!

It's really up to you. Don't send them if you don't think they're up to par. Since I have no experience in art/photos...I wouldn't know. In other words, they don't want to see anything that really isn't spectacular/unique.

I say don't send them...One thing, no one can even tell whether or not it was you who actually took those photos. They could be any photo from the web. Although in reality it might have been you who took those photos, the Admissions people will probably be skeptical.

No, send them in if they are good and they are PUBLISHED...thus they can easily tell that you didn't forge it.

I like the photo of the reflections on the bridge. Most of the others are nice, but I don't know if they'd make anyone at admissions turn their heads. Photography I think is the hardest medium to prove yourself in. Do you have any idea how much photography is even being taught at Harvard through VES? Not much when I was there, but that was a million years ago.

I'd actually say it depends how serious you are about photography- are you considering a VES concentration, or something similar?

The reason I'm suggesting that is that they usually have some faculty member who's an expert in the field look it over, and the admissions offices wouldn't want to go to that much trouble unless they were sure it was worth it. (If, for example, you listed that you wanted to major in VES, or if you wrote your essay on photography, or something along those lines, they'd care enough about your photography to go to the trouble).

So, how serious are you about photography?

If one wants to send supplemental material just to show they are well rounded, and excell or have passions in certain areas that is up to them. However, they type of supplemental material the admission officers most likely want to see is where the applicant has talent that is considered extraordinary.

Thanks to everyone for the sound advice. I will take everything you said into consideration. Photography is more of a hobby for me than a possible career option, so that's a factor for me to consider. However, I did write an essay in which the bridge picture would fit easily. Hmm... I'll give it some serious thought. Thanks again!
