hi, can someone help me summarize what schools usually want us to do in the supplementary section?
I did some research on the schools' websites and i found that some schools want us to complete short questions/responses (in the form of a short paragraph), some give us specific essay question, some let us choose the topic on our owns.. So I really get confused...

and also, how many essays should be enough? Can i attach 3 4 essays in each application? Will they bother to read them all?

Supplementary materials are different from the short responses and essays you mentioned. Supplementary materials include extra teacher recommendations and a short excerpt of some poetry you’ve written if you’re into poetry and want to show it off. On the Common Application, short responses and specific essays are usually required. On the Common App there is a section where you write a short piece about some activity you do, and the personal essay, often required, depending on the school, is usually longer. Some schools use their own application, and they can make their own essay prompts.
