Supplementary materials

I looked all over the Brown site (and collegeboard, etc), but couldn’t find anything on supplementary materials – would it be bad if someone applying to Brown sent a writing/art portfolio? Has anyone done this?

many hav done this... and brown does review supps till a certain limit is reached.. which is where they put the full stop ..

SM

There have been posts about this on this forum recently... look back for some more people's responses.

But go ahead and send them something if you feel it really adds to your application. I sent them a long poem... I don't know if it helped, but I did get in!

Good for you. Did anyone ask you to say that? NO!

Woah, UltimateFrisbee, I was just trying to help the original poster out by saying that you can submit extra stuff and get in (they asked "if it would be bad" and I wanted to show that it wouldn't be). As a current Brown student, I'm here to help people out and tell them about my experiences applying to Brown and living here, not to brag about how I got in. I'm sorry if my post seemed unnecessary or stuck up to you, but I'm just trying to help out. Let's all be nice.

Yeah, I've been looking at many recent posts, but I didn't see any info about supplements, so. Thank you!

UltimateFris-I don't think ILOVEBrown was being smug or conceited. He/she is just offering some info. that applied to their application. My S also just got in ED and sent a supplemental CD with his application since he is a singer. Whether it helped or not....who knows but he did get in. There is some info in the colored brochure book from Brown on page 43 about supplemental material. If you think it will help, why not. The worst that could happen is that they throw it out or not look at your art at all. They did say that they send it to an appropriate dept for review, so I don't know if the adcoms are looking at it at all or waiting for a response from a dept. person.
