<p>I believe Cornell will accept them. They are advised only if they shed new light on an aspect of an applicant that isn't alreay known from the application and required teacher and guidance counselor recommendations. For example, an athlete might submit a coach's recommmendation. Someone doing research might submit a mentor's recommendation. Or someone who has given a lot of time to a community or volunteer activity might seek a supplemental recommendation.</p>
