Supplements- How good do you need to be?

OK so I asked my GC about supplementals and she said that you only do it to fill a niche or if you are AMAZING. She said that anything else would be padding an app.

I figure the more stuff I send in (as long as its not crap) the better, since I'm taking tthe time to not do just the bare minimum.

I want to send oil paintings (slides) but its nothing like the provocative stuff on the AP Studio Art 5's and 4's. However, I think they are pretty good and show off another aspect fo me (cuz I only paint for myself- no contests). They are realisc- not abstract.

I also thought about doing "Reverie" by Debussy on the piano (it will sound way professional) but it's only a NYSSMA level 5 not a 6.

I just want to put my heart and soul into my app for my school (UChicago).

So . . . how good do you have to be? Is it a good idea?

Do whatever you feel passionately about. If you think the artwork/music will better convey the "whole you," go for it. They definitely can't hurt.

Good luck!

Thank you!

My guidance officer sounded like she knew what she was talking about. . . but I don't see why a school wouldn't at least think that you're more interested in them because you took the time to put those things together.

Basically I am bumping this thread.

i would say go for it.

What can u lose by sending it in??

Who is your guidance counsler to say what ''amazing'' is? Maybe the admission's office WILL consider it amazing.

I would say the cliche "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" applies to this. :) Go for it if you feel it in your heart :)

high school counslers are very misleading sometimes.
