This might be a stupid question, but are we allowed to take things like whey protein and/or multivitamins during Plebe Summer?

good question! I don't know the answer, sorry! I know you can have power bars and protein bars and stuff sent to you but I have no idea about creatine or any of that stuff. It would be nice to be building muscle during that whole time and not burning it up.

Unless things have changed vitamins are good to go. If you are taking supplements other than those issued by the academy it is reccomended that you get the doctors at the academy to look at the ingredients. The DON does not approve of some of the stuff in some supplements and they may pop positive on your urinalysis so to be safe make sure they are approved. I know at TBS we were told not to take them before physical events since some can cause heat stroke. Hope this helps, I am not up to date on the current plebe summer regulations but I am sure the detailers will tell you during the first day.

for the class of 2010, suppliments other than protein bars were off limits, at least for the varsity athletes. Creatine was not allowed. While they could have whey, there was no time to mix it, and nothing to mix it in except tap water, so it went unused, at least over plebe summer. Following reform, things eased up a bit, but while vitamins were in, creatine remained out.

Multi-vits should be ok, but only after plebe summer. We tried sending them in several care packages, only to have them confiscated. Ditto for tylenol, motrin, IBP, etc.....

If you are going to take in extra protein (from bars, etc), make sure you take in extra water to go with it, especially over plebe summer. Summers are hot, you will lose a lot of water as it is, and there is no need to tax your kidneys any further than you have to.
